  lizardlanestudios.com: Bio

I was introduced to photography as an art form in 1985 when I was an editor of my high school’s yearbook. While other members of the yearbook staff found satisfaction in designing page layouts, I spent as much time as I could in the darkroom. In college, I hoped to study photography, but my lack of non-photography artistic skills made the studies of art and design at an academic school difficult and eventually I stuck with my original major of political science. In retrospect, I have mixed feelings about that choice. My degree led me into the legal field, as a paralegal and legal secretary, which allows me the means to pursue the art of photography, yet it has often hampered my creative endeavors. I feel a quiet struggle between the effort to succeed and the desire to let go of the logical and create.

I have always held photography as an important part of my life, though at times, depending on circumstances, it has taken a backseat to other aspects of life. But since the turn of the century I have shifted a good deal of my focus back to the world of images. I continually strive to improve my work and hope others enjoy the end result.

My more recent images are mostly digital, though I still shoot film at times. With advances in technology digital cameras can produce film-quality photographs. My 35mm SLR cameras are both Canon Rebels – quality combined with affordability. There is often debate over brands and equipment, but I believe the bottom line is not the type of equipment you have, but how you use it and whether you have a creative eye. A good camera alone does not make one a photographer.

Aside from photography, I enjoy writing, jewelry making and keeping reptiles – hence the name Lizard Lane Studios.

Thanks for visiting my website. I hope you enjoy what you find here.
